Seedance 2.5: the model every AI video platform raced to ship
Seedance 2.5, ByteDance's video generation model, was adopted by at least six major AI video platforms — Runway, Pika, Higgsfield, Leonardo, Hedra and fal.ai — in the ten days between July 28 and August 7, 2026. No previous video model has been picked up by this many competing platforms this quickly.
What is Seedance 2.5?
Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance's latest video generation model, distributed under the Dreamina brand. Based on the platform announcements tracked in our news feed, its headline capabilities are native audio and voice generation (sound produced in the same pass as the video, not added afterwards), thirty-second shots, improved physics and acting performance, and reference-based consistency — Leonardo's integration supports up to fifty references to keep characters, worlds and sounds consistent across every frame.
The adoption timeline

Why does one model appearing everywhere matter?
The Seedance 2.5 rollout is the clearest signal yet that the AI video market is splitting into two layers. The model layer is commoditizing: Runway, Pika, Leonardo and Higgsfield are competitors, yet all four now ship the same third-party ByteDance model alongside (or instead of) their own. The platform layer is where they now differentiate — Hedra emphasized prompt guides and an agent that knows the model; Leonardo emphasized reference workflows "built for directing, not guessing"; Higgsfield competed on price with a free unlimited week; fal.ai competed on enterprise compliance with U.S.-based hosting.
When competing platforms all license the best available model, the model itself stops being the moat. Distribution speed, workflow tooling and pricing become the battleground — and Seedance 2.5 made that shift visible in a single week.
Where can you use Seedance 2.5 today?
As of August 8, 2026, Seedance 2.5 is live on Higgsfield, Leonardo, Hedra (API and Create), and fal.ai's enterprise platform, with Runway and Pika availability announced but not yet shipped. ByteDance's own Dreamina also serves the model family.
